  • AITA for getting my boss fired after she fired me?

For context, I worked at this job (it's a well known store so I won't name it) for about 5 months.
  • I did not like my boss at all. She was rude. Hateful. And she was openly having an affair on her husband who was the nicest guy.
  • Well it was Christmas Eve and I was running a fever, throwing up, and extremely dizzy.
  • I messaged my boss and told her. Her response? "Well no one is going to cover you, so you need to come in" so I told her "fine.
  • But I will ONLY be ringing customers up. Not stocking. Not cleaning. Nothing else" she told me that was fine.
  • I get to work and that's exactly what I did. Only checked out customers. Well fast forward to the 28th of December, 4 days later.

  • I was off those days, so this was my first day back. She told me to clock in and come to her office.
  • We sat down and she proceeded to fire me for getting nothing done Christmas Eve and just standing around, or sitting down in the break room (don't know why she had me clock in, if she was just going to fire me).
  • Then I mentioned the messages where she agreed to that. She acted like she had no idea what I was talking about.
  • So I signed the termination papers and walked out. The next day, I called corporate. I told them everything that happened.

  • The fact she made me work with a fever. How she agreed to me just helping customers.
  • All of that. I had text message proof. I emailed them the screenshots, and I didn't hear anything else.
  • One of my old coworkers reached out to me and told me what happened with my corporate call.
  • Apparently, they started digging on her history with the company and she has wrongfully terminated people in the past.
  • I wasn't the first one. But that's not all... They found out she was sleeping with the district manager!
  • That's why she got away with as much as she did. So they gave her two options.
  • She could either resign and never work for the company again or she had to transfer to the other side of the state (different district).
  • She chose the 2nd option. Well her husband found out about her affairs and divorced her.
  • I don't usually cheer when a family gets broken up but him and their kids definitely deserved better (he got full custody).
  • So AITA for getting my boss fired after she fired me? Edit: so I keep having people ask if I was offered my job back.
  • I was not. I wasn't too upset though cause I was looking for another job, and ended up getting one a few days later.
  • People also asked if I brought it to the labor board, I did not. This was years ago and I was young and dumb.
  • I was 18 (26 now) and didn't really think about doing so. I definitely wish I would've.
  • Edit 2: wow I did NOT expect this to blow up, thank you everyone. Just to clear up, yes she technically wasn't fired then but I did find out she didn't last long at the new store (since she couldn't seduce her way with that district manager) so it did EVENTUALLY lead to her being fired
  • Obvious-Block6979 So what did the company do to make up for the wrongful termination?
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply Absolutely nothing :D
  • MiladyRogue Straight to the labor board or whatever you have.
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply This sadly happened years ago, so I doubt they'd do anything about it now. I was young and dumb. Didn't cross my mind to do that.
  • Canadian-gal1733 Hell no, NTA at all! That was some sweet, petty revenge! She is now living with the consequences of her actions. And honestly, it's really not even petty. You were wrongfully dismissed! So, you had every right to file a complaint against her. Did corporate offer you your job back? Because that's what should have happened. You can actually sue them for wrongful dismissal, which would force them to pay you lost wages, and possibly even your court costs. If they didn't make it righ
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply They didn't offer my job back and I was young at the time, so I was unaware that I could sue. It's been almost 9 years so I highly doubt I could do anything about it now, sadly. And it's a pretty big chain so they'd probably pay their way out of it
  • Osidestarfish You might wanna look into it because you might still be within the window for the statute of limitations.
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply Honestly not sure. This happened about 8-9 years ago
  • lorybear96 Did they fire the district manager too after the company found out she was cheating on her husband with him? Because that would have been Karma and sweet revenge for her ex-husband. Speaking of which, I'm glad her now ex-husband has full custody of their children. I hope he's doing well and I hope you're doing well after what she put you both through.
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply I'm honestly not sure if he was fired, I didn't hear anything about his situation. Her husband worked with disabled adults (down syndrome, Asperger's, ect) he was the nicest guy. Definitely deserved better.
  • Obvious-Block6979 Did you ask for your job back?
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply No actually. And the reason for that is because I hated working for this company and was already looking for a new job. The reason I turned her in though is because if she did this to me, I had a feeling there were others. And I was right.
  • AvBanoth You done good, but you only got her transferred, not fired like you promised. She needed firing.
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply Well I've heard from people around town she didn't last long at the new location (cause she couldn't seduce her way into getting what she wanted, since it was a different district)
  • Kallascat-Dingo-Bat I bet the store rhymes with "hall fart"...
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply Actually no lol it rhymes with Foller Seneral
  • Aromatic_Potential94 This has Blue vest and smiley face company written all over it.
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply Surprisingly, no. But I worked there too and it SUCKED. I could definitely make a post about that place too
  • Better-Expert5105 I think what illustrious is objecting to is that, while probably contagious, you insisted on only doing the part of the job where you're most likely to spread whatever illness you have. Not saying I agree with that entirely; I agree that it's the part of the job that you particularly shouldn't be doing while contagious, but I also totally recognize your point about being young and afraid of getting fired (a fear that was obviously quite rational and justified). And I think that
  • ImPettyAsF Original Poster's Reply Sadly it's a job where there's only 2 people working at a time. Regular worker (me) and the manager which they have paperwork, and other things to do. So I would've had to find someone on my level. The manager couldn't cover me.
